Installation on the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camp

The Path

The Area Composing was developed for the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp. The performance takes place on the 18 pylons on the „Street of Nations“ of the Buchenwald Memorial.

This wide path with the almost martial-looking pylons of Soviet architecture connects three ring graves. Walking along is a direct confrontation with the destinies of the victims and with their admonition of „Never again!“ The installation „The Path“ is intended to accompany the visitors on this path. It creates empathy with the victims and encourages reflection on totalitarian thought and action – yesterday and today. Towards the end of the path, the installation takes the viewer himself into focus and makes him aware that he too can become a victim or even a perpetrator.
